White Fang was supposed to have found safety. After facing euthanasia, he was adopted and given what should have been a fresh start. Unfortunately, that wasn’t what happened, and he ended up in a bad situation. He has only recently made his way out of it and into our care, and now we’re getting to know the very fun, affectionate dog behind that history.

According to his microchip, White Fang is 10 years old. If we didn’t have that information, we never would have guessed it, and neither would our vet. We would have put him somewhere around 5 or 6. He’s spry, energetic and fun-loving, and if he really is 10, he certainly doesn’t know it.

White Fang is very affectionate and loves being around people. He’s a big fan of belly rubs, loves his toys and is always happy to have some fun.

He isn’t always comfortable with certain types of handling and can growl when he feels he’s being forced into something, such as putting on a harness or during parts of a veterinary exam. He bounces back very quickly once the uncomfortable moment is over and goes right back to being his friendly self. Everything is also still very new for him, so he needs some time to adjust, build trust and get used to a new routine. So far, he’s doing great.

We also know White Fang has chased porcupines in the past, so he may have a decent prey drive. We wouldn’t be surprised if small animals like cats weren’t the best match for him, although he has not been tested with cats and we can’t say for sure.

White Fang may technically qualify as a senior, but that’s about the only senior thing we’ve seen from him so far. He’s an energetic, playful and very loving guy who is finally safe and ready to find a home that will stick.
