ABOUT :

Rhode was found as a stray, in a forest, where he was likely dumped by his previous owner. A good samaritan found him and took him in, providing him all the medical care he needed, lots of love and training. He spent a few great months with her, but unfortunately he cannot cohabitate with cats and is now looking for his forever home.

Rhode is an active boy. He absolutely loves spending time outdoors with his family, whether it be walking, hiking, play sessions in the yard or something else. He loves toys, and always wants to play! His ideal home would be with an active family who has a yard he could play in. He is a gentle giant, who loves to be around you and to cuddle. Bonus points if you give him treats!

Rhode has separation anxiety, which is totally normal after all he has been through. He is not yet comfortable staying in a crate, but when he’s left in the home he does not destroy things. He can whine and bark if he can’t see his people, so no apartment or condo living for this boy. He has prey drive, and reacts to cats and squirels. He is strong, and pulls on leash. His family will need to continue his training. He has made great progress so far! He can also get nervous with quick hand movements - he cowers. We believe he may have suffered at the hands of humans at some point in his life.

Words from his foster:

In the time that I have had him (after finding him in street) I’ve really seen his character come out, he was so scared when we found him but after 3-4 days he really started coming out of his shell and showing us that he trusts us and knows we won’t do anything to hurt him. He trusts me when he eats (doesn’t guard his food), he trusts me in car knowing I will always be back to pick him up (he wasn’t even able to sit in the car when I got him he would stand up and look scared as if he thought I was going to drop him off somewhere). Now he lays down in the car and just enjoys the ride. Anyone would be lucky to have him, he will make a great dog for a single person, a couple, or even a family.
