ABOUT :
Pope was transferred to RAD by one of our partner shelters in the Montreal region, because he required additional medical testing, and because he was not doing well in the shelter environment. Pope had originally been found as a stray, and was never claimed by his family.
Pope is a happy, sweet and loving dog. He loves people, and loves to be pet and cuddled. In the home he follows his people around, just wanting to be part of the action. He’s pretty chill inside, and likes to lounge on his beds nearby to wherever you’re sitting - although he would probably much prefer to be snuggled up to you! He is playful when you bring him his toys and let him know it’s time for fun - otherwise, he’s not one to start the playtime on his own. He enjoys going for walks and adventures. He walks great on leash - but sometimes he doesn’t like some of the other dogs that pass by him, or when strange people run towards him and he can bark and pull. He also gets excited when he passes birds or cats, and can pull towards them.
At home, Pope sleeps peacefully in his crate overnight without any troubles, he goes in on his own and is at ease. In the day, Pope still needs work on being able to stay alone, or in the crate. His fosters have been working with him, and he’s been making good progress with this! Pope’s ideal home would be one without any other pets, and with a family who is often at home so that they can continue working with him. He’s a great boy, with lots of potential!
When Pope arrived with RAD, he had been continuously loosing weight and having loose stools. No medical testing was finding any answers, and Pope was declining. After completing more tests, and moving Pope to a calm and consistent environment, we were finally able to get him back on track! Pope was confirmed to have IBD, and once he started eating a veterinary hydrolyzed protein diet he put back on his weight and came back to being top shape. He will need to continue eating this diet strictly, but requires no medications. At routine testing, Pope came back positive for Lyme disease. He has no symptoms, and is currently under treatment. Our vets are not concerned for him, he will have a long happy and normal life despite testing positive!
WORDS FROM HIS FOSTER:
Pope is an absolute sweetheart. He’s a total cuddlebug and a true people-pleaser—he just wants to make his humans happy. At home, he’s incredibly affectionate and easygoing. He’ll follow you from room to room, always wanting to be close by and part of whatever you’re doing. Whether you’re working, relaxing, or just moving about the house, he’s your loyal little shadow. Pope is truly a special dog with so much love to give. He’ll make a wonderful companion for someone who can give him the affection and patience he needs and a little room to run!
