Meet Nakita! Nakita was seized by authorities in Ontario, over 3 years ago. While she escaped the situation of negligence in which she was living, she didn’t exactly find her happy ending. Since her rescue, Nakita has been waiting in a local shelter for a family to choose her. During that time, she was passed over time and time again. She often appeared withdrawn, and would lay quietly in her kennel, a reflection of just how much the long wait had affected her.

Nakita was transferred to Quebec to give her a better chance of finding her family. Now that Nakita is out of the shelter environment, she is coming back to life in the best way. Her goofy, playful, and affectionate personality has returned, and she is making up for lost time. She absolutely adores people and wants to say hello to everyone she meets. Whether it is leaning in for pets or bouncing around with excitement, Nakita is full of love and enthusiasm.

She enjoys her walks and does well overall, though she can pull a bit when something catches her interest. With consistency and guidance, she will only improve. After spending so much of her life in a shelter, Nakita is still relearning what it means to live in a home. She is very curious and likes to investigate her surroundings, which can include counter surfing or making herself comfortable on the couch. She is a smart dog who enjoys interactive toys and mental stimulation, and she will benefit from structure and continued learning as she settles in.

Nakita can be a lot of dog at times, but it comes from excitement and a desire to finally live life to the fullest. What she truly needs is a stable, loving home that will give her the time and guidance to decompress and adjust. Once she feels secure, her best self continues to shine through.

She is currently a little overweight, thanks to being a shelter favorite who was spoiled with treats by staff who could not resist her sweet face and loving nature. With regular exercise and a balanced routine, she will be feeling her best in no time.
