ABOUT :
Jordy came to us after the person who had been breeding doodles decided to stop breeding. She had spent the majority of her life living outside, so moving into a home and becoming part of a household was a pretty big change for her.
Jordy was understandably timid and unsure when she first arrived, but after some time, Jordy has already come a long way. Her personality takes a little time to come out, especially around new people, but once she starts feeling comfortable, she is a sweet, goofy and affectionate girl.
At home, Jordy loves being around her people and will follow them from room to room. She loves belly rubs, curling herself into a little ball to sleep and watching everything going on outside the window. Her stuffed toys are probably her favourite things. She carries them around the house with her and regularly relocates them from one room to another. Outside, she runs around the yard and has an adorable habit of hopping around like a bunny.
Having another dog in her foster home has been especially helpful. Jordy and her foster sister get along extremely well, play together and comfortably share their space, food and toys. Jordy reads other dogs nicely, initiates play and is also able to communicate when she isn’t comfortable. She looks to her foster sister for guidance and has gained a lot of confidence by following her lead.
She’s also a fantastic walking buddy and walks beautifully on leash without pulling. She enjoys her walks, but she isn’t an overly high-energy dog. A yard is important for Jordy because she genuinely loves spending time outside, whether she’s running around, playing or sitting and watching the squirrels. She has shown some prey drive toward squirrels and will bark at cats she sees outside, but she did spend some time in a house with a cat and did well. She did try to play with them a lot, so a cat that is used to dogs would be best.
Jordy is still gaining confidence with new people. She likes to approach and sniff them first but may not be ready to accept affection right away. When she feels overwhelmed, she tends to freeze and make herself small rather than react. Giving her the space to approach at her own pace makes a big difference. So far, she hasn’t been destructive, has been crated for up to four hours and now sleeps comfortably in her crate at night. She does sometimes howl when left alone and really enjoys having company, whether that’s a person or another dog.
For a dog who spent most of her life outside, Jordy is doing incredibly well learning what life as part of a family is all about. A home with a yard, plenty of companionship and ideally another friendly, confident dog would be a great fit for her.
She may need a little time before you see all of her personality, but once she gets comfortable, there’s a very sweet, playful and wonderfully goofy girl waiting underneath.
