Jake came to RAD after being seized from a situation of serious neglect. He had been kept confined in a basement and was fed excessively until his weight climbed to nearly 100 lbs, more than three times what a typical Beagle should weigh! As a result of this prolonged neglect and extreme obesity, Jake experienced skin issues and mobility challenges that limited his comfort and movement. Despite everything he endured, Jake’s gentle spirit remained intact, and he is now safe and beginning his journey toward a healthier life.

Jake is a calm, sweet, and easygoing boy with a wonderfully gentle nature. He is naturally trusting, curious, and genuinely enjoys human company, greeting new people with warmth and interest. Around the home, he is quiet and relaxed, content to nap, soak up affection, or enjoy being brushed. He likes short walks at his own pace, sniffing around the yard, and entertaining himself with his toys. Jake walks beautifully on leash without pulling and is generally very “go with the flow,” preferring a peaceful, predictable routine.

Jake is searching for a home that will respect his slower pace and continue supporting his health journey. He is currently on a strict, specialized weight-loss diet that must be maintained by his adoptive family. His progress will be slow and steady, but is very important for his long term health!

He is sweet, calm and gentle and has a very trusting personality. He's a great dog. Not a bad bone in his body. I've had dogs with all kinds of challenges. He is not one of them. The bestest boy!
