ABOUT :
Meet Goomba! Goomba was originally purchased from a breeder in the USA, and brought to Canada. Goomba clearly did not get a proper socialization or training, and was evidently not exposed to much as a pup. He likely had a nervous nature naturally, but without any work put in to helping him grow and gain confidence, he became quite afraid. This isn’t the type of dog his previous owner wanted, so Goomba found himself surrendered and heading back to the USA and into a high kill shelter environment before he was even 1 year old. Luckily we were able to step in, and save this boy from an uncertain future.
Goomba has been making huge progress in his foster home. When he first arrived, he was so nervous he would barely get up off of his bed. This was his safe space. Goomba adores other dogs, and the presence of his foster brother really helped him open up. Goomba is learning by following him, and is now much more confortable exploring his environment, going out in the yard, playing with toys and even cuddling his foster brother. Goomba is very fearful of new noises or experiences - he’s starting to do great in the yard and ask for the door when he needs to go out, but if it’s too busy or noisy outside, or if the neighbours are using their yard, he still sometimes doesn’t want to go out and can have accidents inside. He is not ready to start taking walks yet, as the environment is too overwhelming for him. With humans, Goomba is extra sweet. He is more scared of men than women, but with the women he has met so far once he warms up to them he is a cuddly love bug. He gives kisses, and wants to snuggle. He has never shown an ounce of aggression, when he is scared he is the type to cower. Sudden movements or sounds still have that affect on him.
The ideal home for Goomba is one that is calm and patient. A safe yard and a quiet environment outside of the city is essential for Goomba’s growth, as is a happy and playful balanced canine companion. Goomba thrives in the presence of another dog, and would be quite sad without one. His family will need to be patient and understanding, and willing to work with Goomba in order to help him overcome his fears and become the confident pup we know he can be!
WORDS FROM HIS FOSTER:
Goomba is a big McChicken who adores the presence of his foster brother, following him everywhere and imitating everything he does, like a pupil with his mentor. He's a gentle giant, funny and only wants affection. Despite all his fears due to his past, he wants to learn and do better. He's a big couch potato who always wants to be glued down. His sleeping positions are legendary and his tongue just won't stay in his mouth, giving him a perpetual goofy look. A truly unique dog.
