Meet Fatman! When we heard about this guy needing a home in LA, we could NOT resist him. Once we saw his ridiculous shape and face, we were in love. Fatman has passed through a few homes in his life, through no fault of his own. He has arrived in Montreal and is looking for his FOREVER family, for good!

Fatman is incredibly charming, entertaining and full of personality. Since his arrival, he has settled in at his fosters home and let his confidence begin to shine. Fatman enjoys the simple pleasures in life. His favorite activities include playing with his beloved blue spiky ball, having a good game of tug, and soaking up attention from his people. While he enjoys going for walks, he is not looking for a marathon-running family. A few short walks throughout the day are enough to keep him happy, allowing him to stretch his short legs, and enjoy some fresh air before returning home for a well-earned nap.

One of Fatman's best qualities is his adaptability. He has settled comfortably into apartment living and would likely do well in a condo, bungalow, or home with a yard. He is independent when left alone, rests quietly in his crate or designated space, and has shown that he can relax and entertain himself when his people are busy. Once his exercise needs are met, he is content to spend much of the day lounging and recharging.

Like many dogs, Fatman can cautious when meeting new people inside his home. He may bark and shy away from visitors at first, but if they give him some time and patience, he settles and becomes comfortable once again. Outside the home, he is much more relaxed and eager to meet new friends. Once he trusts someone, his affectionate side shines through. While he is not an overly clingy dog, he loves attention, enjoys belly rubs, and even paws at his people to ask for more love. Fatman is also social with dogs, and has done well with the variety of dogs he has met so far. He isn’t super playful with them, prefering to say hi and then continue on his day, but he can be eager to meet them when he crosses them on the street.

As you may have guessed from his name (he came with it, we swear!), Fatman has some pounds to lose. He has already made some nice progress since his arrival! Due to his unique build, Fatman can be prone to irritation and sores on his paws. His future family will need to be mindful of the surfaces he walks on, opting for grass or softer terrain whenever possible and regularly checking his paws for any signs of discomfort or injury. His compact build can also make stairs challenging. While Fatman is capable of managing a small number of steps, he would be happiest in a home with minimal stairs and would not be well suited to a multi-level home that requires frequent stair use. Fatman has also lived with cherry eye in both eyes for much of his life. The good news is that he is currently awaiting corrective surgery, which is expected to resolve the issue permanently!

Fatman is a sweet, sassy boy with a big personality, but he’s also really easy to have around. Once he’s comfortable, you really start to see all his funny little moods. Sometimes he’s so excited to see you and wants attention right away, and other times he just wants to rest and do his own thing. He’s very expressive, especially around food, and will definitely give you the look when he’s hungry. Fatman can be playful, stubborn, and a little dramatic, but he’s also very sweet in his own way. He’s not super cuddly, but he shows affection by putting his paw on you, staring at you for attention, and wanting to be near his people. At 5 years old and about 60 lbs, Fatman is also on a healthy journey, and he’s already made really nice progress.
