BEAN

Kim received a call about a dog that was brought in the emergency hospital needing emergency surgery or wouldn’t survive. Bean was living on the streets with an owner that was struggling with drug abuse. Bean had been hit by a truck who didn’t stop and rushed to the hospital by a Good Samaritan. As the dog was not our rescue Kim couldn’t do much but try to get Bean surrendered to us. She payed for the vets so stabilize Bean and have her “comfortable” until she figured it out. The surrender finally was able to happen and Bean received her first surgery to fix her broken hip, displaced shoulder, internal ruptures and the list goes on. She had to stay in the emergency for about a week. An amazing family really wanted to adopt Bean through all of this, not knowing how she would turn out. We agreed to have them foster her during recovery and take it from there. Once she was out of the hospital it was going to be a long recovery time with a lot of rehab. Within a week of being out there were complications and Bean needed another surgery, and then another. The road for this girl wasn’t easy. We couldn’t have saved this girl without all the support we got from our community as the vet bills came to about $17 000. Also from the vets that did one surgery for free that saved us about $5000 and the help of North Vancouver RCMP who helped Kim so much during this time. The foster family ended up adopting Bean and she is now bff with the house bunny and the chihuahua!

WORDS FROM BEAN’S NEW ADOPTERS: There are no words to describe the joy and love Bean has brought to our family. When we got her she was “broken” to say the least, not only physically but her heart and spirit. She had never lived in a home so this was new to her as well. She didn’t know what a routine was or what getting her meals regularly meant. Kim was there for every step of the way. We have always adopted our pets from rescues but the dedication and support RAD gave us was beyond anything we have ever experienced. They are truly committed to the dogs they rescue. A few months after adopting Bean we had a break and entry in our home, once we came home there was no sign of Bean. We called the police and after the first person we called was Kim. We told her the details, she stayed calm and said I will call you right back. Within 10 minutes, she showed up at our house, said Bean was stolen, they tried to change her microchip information. Our hearts sank and we panicked. We remember so clearly Kim said “I will find Bean, I promise you.” She seemed confident and it was comforting. She went through four police officers until she was satisfied with one. She just kept sending them on their way telling them to send another. On the third she called back the police station and said “do not send another officer that doesn’t care for animals. Send one that actually LOVES dogs.” This girl was not messing around. During the waiting time, Kim had done a bunch of phone calls, posted Bean in about 15 Facebook groups, even the neighbors came to our house saying they saw the ad. We worked with one amazing police officer who had rescue dogs and when Kim left she said don’t worry Bean will be back. That night we all couldn’t sleep, we didn’t care about our house we just wanted our dog. We new Bean was still healing and couldn’t walk much, jump or even run. Kim showed up the next day, in the same clothe with a very large coffee hahah it was clear she was up all night. She said “we found Bean, the police officer is bringing her over after she deals with the thieves.” We couldn’t believe it. When Bean arrived in the back of the police car with her little head out the window the happiness and relief we felt is something we will never forget. My kids were so happy they ran to her as she went to them. Bean was limping pretty bad and Kim and I took Bean to the vet to be checked out right away. This is the kind of dedication RAD has. Kim is one not to mess with when it comes to dogs!!!! Bean will never be the way she was prior to the accident as far as mobility but we continue to work with her. She loves our kids, the animals in the house and loves sunbathing in the yard. We take her on all our camping trips and she loves car rides. Daily she teaches us patience and perseverance. She shows us how grateful she is to us, it’s just truly something else having a rescue and a dog from a breeder. Two different experiences and we much prefer the rescue route, especially from Rescue All Dogs. Thank you to all that helped and believed in this girl.
