ABOUT :
Meet Baloo! Baloo came to RAD in an emergency state. In his previous life, he was living in a large space of land, with not so much supervision. As a naturally curious boy, Baloo saw a porcupine and went to investigate. That didn’t end too well for him. His family cut the quills very short instead of bringing him to the vet - this was a huge mistake. The quills migrated under his skin, and started to create painful areas all over his face! Baloo has since undergone 2 surgeries to remove the quill shards we were able to find, and his loving foster has been removing quills as they appear for weeks. We think he is FINALLY free from this encounter!
Baloo is a loving and truly great dog. Even when he was in pain, he was sweet with everyone he met including the veterinary staff. He can be a little anxious with some new sounds, but is resiliant and comes back quickly. He loves people, and loves to give kisses and ask for attention. He loves to go for walks, to sniff around his surroundings, or to chill out with his kong on his bed at home. He is an adaptable dog, who would enjoy going on hikes and adventures but would also be fine with a few longer walks a day and play in the yard. He would do best in a home outside of the city. He is very food motivated, and he is smart, we think he would do great learning new tricks! He can still pull on leash, but with some work at the beginning of his walks he settles down. He does have some prey drive, apparently he didn’t really learn not to go see the wildlife after his porcupine encounter, and he can pull towards rabbits or other small mammals outside on walks. He lives with other dogs and cats in his foster home, and has no problems with them. We think he would be fine with older kids - he jumps up to say hi when he is excited, and with his size could easily knock over a smaller kid by accident!
WORDS FROM HIS FOSTER:
Mr. Baloo is a whole 80lbs of pure love. He is always down for some pets and kisses. He's a smart and strong boy that thrives on structure. He loves everyone and gets along well with other dogs. Baloo loves to go on walks and explore all the smells around him. He has been a pleasure to have with us and he was easy to fall in love with. Baloo deserves a home that will treat him like the little prince that he is.
